More about Cleve Jones:
Cleve Jones is a human rights activist, author and lecturer based out of San Francisco. Jones joined the gay liberation movement in the early 1970s, mentored by pioneer LGBT activist Harvey Milk as his intern in City Hall until his assassination in 1978. He can be seen in the award-winning film Milk. Jones co-founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation in 1983 and founded The NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt in 1987, one of the world’s largest community arts projects. In 2005, Cleve Jones became the Community and Political Coordinator with UNITE HERE, where he has led LGBTQ and labor coalitions in taking on some of the toughest corporations in the hospitality industry. He has also worked to make the labor movement more inclusive of LGBTQ workers via the insertion of LGTBQ safeguards in union contracts to protect workers from discrimination. These protections can be enforced even in States and cities where no such discrimination laws exist.
